Response to COVID-19: Update #1
A Message from the Director
Dear Community Members,
As the outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 continues to spread throughout the state, the South Brunswick Public Library is taking necessary and precautionary steps to respond to this ever-changing situation.
SBPL is committed to the safety of our guests and staff and we are closely monitoring the spread of the COVID-19 virus and numerous guidelines from the CDC, state and local public health agencies.
As a highly used community space, the library is a hub for residents to gather, borrow materials and participate in public events. It is our hope to maintain our services and offerings while minimizing any public risk.
We do wish to remind everyone of our many digital services available 24/7 with your library card. We encourage you to explore and use them as much as possible during this time.
SBPL provides electronic access to a number of materials through our website www.sbpl.info that can be accessed through the links below:
Audiobooks
e-Books
Newspapers
Magazines
Streaming Media
We also offer online tutoring through Brainfuse and provide online access to magazine, newspaper and journal articles for reading and research. Follow this link for a complete list of our databases.
Our new Mobile Branch is on the road and may be in your neighborhood. Information on this service and schedule can be found here.
SBPL also encourages everyone to review and follow the guidance and information provided by the New Jersey Department of Health concerning the COVID-2019 virus. Most importantly, we encourage library users and staff to follow recommendations for frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing and to please stay home if sick.
SBPL is taking the following precautions:
- Posting signage from the CDC regarding handwashing, reducing the spread of germs, and factsheets about COVID-19
- Ensuring that hot water and soap are available in restrooms
- Performing extra sanitizing of “high touch” surfaces such as computer keyboards and door handles
- Temporary removal of puzzles, toys and kits from the Children’s Department
- Postponing large-scale events such as Maker’s Day and canceling food handling programs for now
We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and cooperation as we navigate day by day through this evolving landscape. We will provide updates through our website, email and social media should anything change.

Best regards and please take care to remain healthy and safe,
Chris Carbone, Director
