What is The Children’s Summer Reading Challenge?
The Children’s Summer Reading Challenge is a South Brunswick Public Library tradition designed to encourage reading over the summer break. Hosted on Beanstack, it’s open to kids from birth through Grade 6.
How do I sign up?
Visit https://southbrunswick.beanstack.com and select “Register an Individual or Family” to get started. Follow the prompts to create your account.
Can I set up a family account?
Yes! We recommend registering the adult first, then adding children and other family members as “readers” under one login.
I already made an account last year, do I have to set up a new one?
No. Just log in at Beanstack with your existing username or email and password, then enroll in this year’s challenge.
What if I forgot my password?
Select “Recover Password” on the sign-in page. Enter your username or email, and you’ll receive a link to reset your password.
What do I have to read?
All reading counts! That includes audiobooks, e-books, graphic novels, chapter books, Wonderbooks, storytime books, magazines… anything! They don’t even have to be from the library! Caregivers reading aloud to children can count time for both themselves and the child.
How do I keep track of the reading?
Use the Beanstack app or website to log your minutes read each day. Estimating is okay!
Do I have to log every book I read?
No! For our program you only need to log however much time is being read. You can keep track of the books you’ve read, but we only focus how much time is being read.

How much do I need to read?
There’s no required minimum! Any reading is good reading! Read as much as you can, because the more you read, the more prizes you can win!
What are badges?
Badges are earned for completing reading milestones and activities. Each badge also earns you a ticket for our prize drawings.
Do all badges come with prizes?
No, but every badge earns you a ticket you can use to enter our end-of-summer prize drawing.

What about the prizes on the Prize Wall at the Children’s Desk, how do I win those?
You can win awesome prizes from our Prize Wall by entering our end-of-summer drawing! Every badge you earn gets you a ticket to use in our end-of-summer prize drawing. Go to the Challenge Page and select “Ticket Drawings.” There, you can use your earned tickets to choose which prizes you want to try and win.
When will the end-of-summer drawing take place?
The winners will be drawn on Monday, August 17th and contacted individually.
How will I know if I have earned a prize?
When you log in to Beanstack, you will receive a notification that you have received a prize. Make sure to turn on email notifications and you will also receive an email letting you know you have earned prizes.
When can we come pick up our prizes?
Prizes are available for pickup any time during Library hours, through Sunday, August 30.
May I collect prizes for my children when they are not present?
Yes! Parents and caregivers are welcome to collect prizes on their child’s behalf.
